Capt. Cook & Staithes Heritage Centre

The Captain Cook and Staithes Heritage Centre is an amazing treasure chest of memorabilia and antiquities related to the world-famous seaman, Captain James Cook..... and also of the village of Staithes where he lived and worked as a boy and where his life-long love of the sea was first kindled.

Here, within our informative heritage centre, is the world’s only re-creation of the grocer’s shop where he once worked, with possibly the original window shutters!! Other treasures on our 2 floors include models, books, manuscripts, letters, prints paintings, coins, porcelain, glassware and even 61 original Webber engravings.... plus copies of the Harrison H3 and Kendall K4 maritime timepieces.... and much more!! All this and a life-size street scene and period rooms... so come and experience the history of Captain Cook and the pretty little fishing village of Staithes on the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast

The centre has a small shop where you will be able to purchase gifts, souvenirs and books, including the informative full colour Discovery Guides to Captain James Cook, Captain Cook Country and the HM Bark Endeavour.
