Captain James Cook North York Moors

Leave the Car

With space to breathe, the wide open spaces of Captain Cook Country allow you to get back in touch with yourself.

Leave the car behind and enjoy the moors and dales on foot, by bike or by bus and train.

Here the North York Moors stretch as far as you can see. This vast open moorland provides an encounter with solitude and wilderness seldom found today.

Captain Cook Country can give a magnificent sense of freedom and space - wherever you look your eye will be drawn to big skies that embrace moors, cliffs, villages and market towns.

Paths & Trails

Walk the forest paths and trails where late spring brings spectacular displays of bluebells and wild garlic. Visit one of our many countryside centres to really appreciate the natural beauty of the landscape you are sharing. Enjoy spectacular views across the sea from the mighty cliffs at Boulby near Staithes, or look for fossils on the beaches beneath the cliffs, for this is also part of the Dinosaur coast stretching south to Scarborough.

Autumn in the country allows a relaxing period in which to recharge your batteries, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the North York Moors National Park with hidden villages and fast flowing rivers and streams set amid the russets and browns that say the countryside is preparing for winter.
