The Captain Cook Tourism Association Membership Marketing the area from Whitby to Teesside under the banner of our greatest explorer and navigator, the Association has done much since its formation in 1981 to present a positive and welcoming image for the area to the many thousands of visitors who spend their leisure time here. Providing a genuinely co-ordinated approach to publicity, we have now become the recognised independent agency for tourism promotion in the region. The Association is sponsored by local authorities and Regional Tourist Board partners and has a strong commercial membership all with the same aim to " promote the region known as Captain Cook Country , and to promote and foster liaison between Association members to develop tourism in a sustainable way." How does it work? The day to day work of the Association is carried out by a Working Group of specialist officers from the sponsoring authorities with support from the Northumbria and Yorkshire Regional Tourist Boards. This group regularly reports to a Management Board of local authority members and commercial sector representatives. With access to substantial funding, the Association is able to initiate and sustain marketing programmes that are exciting and structured to maximise benefits to its members. By becoming a commercial member of the Association, local tourism related businesses will be supporting this work as well as receiving an appropriate generous benefits package . A regular newsletter "Discovery"- keeps members in touch with what's going on in Cook Country. Who should join? If you operate a tourism related business anywhere within the area from Hartlepool to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay; along the Esk Valley and around Great Ayton and Stokesley, then membership is open to you. Any other Captain Cook related businesses can be considered for membership too. Hotels, Guest Houses and B+B's; visitor attractions and retail outlets as well as tour guides and tea rooms all benefit from membership, you can too!
